Stewart State Forest is a unique forest area in Orange County, NY consisting of 6,700-acres with a mix of wetlands, fields, and forest. There are 18 miles of gravel roads and more than 22 miles of major trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, hunting, dog training and trials, skiing, snowmobiling, bird watching, and fishing.
According to the state website, “Horses are allowed on all public roads and trails except the Orchard Trail, Beaver Pond Trail, Rock Wall Trail, and the boardwalk over Great Swamp. Proof of current negative Coggins certificate is required for all horses and out-of-state horse owners are required to produce a 30-day health certificate.”
